The Palitoy catalogue announced Acessory Set E containing a radio control system to operate two Meccano motors, but it did not make it to the market. All Action Packs from 1980 and 1981 were withdrawn, except the motorized racing cars.
In the autumn of 1984 Meccano France went bankrupt. The U.S. General Mills Toy Group, who had purchased all Meccano interests in 1981, decided to withdraw interests in the toy trade and closed the Calais manufacturing plant.
Had Meccano come to an end?
In March 1985 Miro Meccano in France was bought by businessman Mr. Jeffrey Mandel, and once again became Meccano S.A. The Calais factory was re-opened in November by the French businessmana Mr. Marc Rebibo. Plastic Meccano "Junior" sets, 1070-style "blue" sets 2 to 8, motorized sets with Magic Motor and spare parts were promised.
